Susan Pochron
Sue Pochron is passionate about beads and beadwork, combining techniques to create pieces of unique wearable art. During her career in University research and teaching as a fungal physiologist, Sue has enjoyed the challenge of promoting awareness of microbiology and plant science. Her decorative neckpieces arise from a deep seated interest in cellular structure and function. She is heavily influenced by natural forms and microscopic structures. Many pieces are constructed by bead-weaving around one-off focal glass beads hand made by Sue in her own Heatherfield Beads studio, or around special vintage beads. A range of techniques are combined to give the finished pieces strength as well as a natural flexibility and fluidity while balancing colour, pattern and texture to create decorative, wearable beadwork.
