Sandrina Gay
Sandrina’s journey to developing artistic skills was thanks to
An inspiring course at Hereford art college
A visit to see the creative skills in the Blacksmiths department
Once she visited the small metal workshop her love affair with copper and fire began
She began to to develop her ideas from working with a flat piece of shinny copper and using a hammer and fire turning it into a three dimensional form.
She takes most of her inspiration from studying nature and frequently collects pieces of stone and gnarled wood to complete her copper sculptures
She also applies her love of working with fire by using an 18th century
Japanese technique called Shou –sugi –ban this technique blackens and scores the wood which helps preserve it and also helps repel insects.
Working with copper, stone and wood her aim is to produce unique pieces of secret garden sculptures .
