Barrie Hartley, Blacksmith
Barrie decided to develop skills in basic blacksmithing in order to pursue an interest in the Japanese sword! He continues to work in pattern welded steel, but found that making decorative items of iron was also absorbing. He has been working as a part time smith for thirty years.
His techniques were learned over a period of six years attending weekend courses run by the Wessex Guild of Blacksmiths at Cannington College in Somerset. He was admitted to full membership of the Guild after successfully completing the test piece of the Guild.
Barrie now works primarily in wrought iron, and every piece is unique. See his chandelier in the gallery entrance! Individual commissions welcomed.
